Judy Austin’s ₦1 Billion Defamation Suit Against Ex-Husband Adjourned Again

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja has adjourned actress Judy Austin’s ₦1 billion defamation suit against her former husband, Emmanuel Chukwuobasi Obasi, to November 24, 2026.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during which Obasi’s legal team challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.

Following the development, the court fixed November 24 for further proceedings.

Austin instituted the legal action over statements allegedly made by Obasi concerning her and their former relationship. She is seeking ₦1 billion in general damages, in addition to ₦500 million in aggravated damages and another ₦500 million in exemplary damages. She is also demanding ₦100 million as the cost of prosecuting the case.

Among the other reliefs being sought by the actress is an order compelling Obasi to publish a full and unreserved retraction and apology in at least two national newspapers and on his social media platforms. She is also asking the court to restrain him from making further statements she considers defamatory and to order the removal of previously published material she says is defamatory.

The lawsuit forms part of a long-running public dispute between Austin and Obasi, who were previously married and share children. The disagreement has involved competing accounts about their former relationship and the circumstances surrounding their separation.

Obasi has previously made public claims concerning his former marriage and his access to their children. Austin has disputed allegations made against her, and the issues are now before the court for determination.

The latest adjournment means the legal battle will continue on November 24, when the court is expected to hear further arguments in the matter. The claims contained in the lawsuit remain allegations, and no final judgment has been delivered on the substance of the case.
