June 12 Bombshell: Bwala Accuses Peter Obi Of Snubbing Democracy Struggle

Bwala, who serves as President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, argued that Obi has no moral standing to speak on the significance of June 12, 1993, alleging that the former Anambra governor was never involved in the pro-democracy movement.

According to Bwala, Obi was overseas at the time—reportedly engaged in trade—and therefore lacked any history or record of contributing to the democratic struggle.

Obi had used the occasion of Democracy Day to urge President Tinubu to draw inspiration from former presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan. He advised Tinubu to emulate Yar’Adua by openly acknowledging the flaws in the process that brought him to power, and to follow Jonathan’s example of conceding defeat in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.

Obi and his supporters continue to maintain that the 2023 presidential election was riddled with irregularities and should not have been upheld. He has also declared that true democracy is absent under Tinubu’s administration.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening, Bwala reiterated his position, questioning Obi’s democratic credentials.

He wrote:
“Can someone confirm for me if it’s true that on June 12, 1993, and in the weeks that followed, Peter Obi was in Malaysia or some part of Asia involved in trade and commerce? I searched the internet for any trace of his role in the democracy struggle—nothing came up, ohh.”
