JUST IN: APC Emerges Victorious Again As Presidential Election Petitions Court Dismisses Atiku’s Claims of Tinubu’s Dual Citizenship And Drug Conviction

In his petition, Atiku asserted that President Tinubu neglected to declare in his EC9 form that he is a dual citizen of both Nigeria and the Republic of Guinea, a status he allegedly voluntarily acquired. Additionally, Atiku contended that Tinubu is not legally eligible to vie for the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria due to a purported forfeiture of the sum of $460,000. This amount, Atiku claimed, was compromised in an agreement over a narcotics-related crime in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division.

However, Justice Moses Ugo sided with the objections raised by the APC and President Tinubu. The judge maintained that Atiku and the PDP could not introduce new issues not initially included in their petition based on the grounds of non-qualification. He emphasized that the claims presented by Atiku were novel, therefore not fit for the court’s consideration in this context.
