Gunmen, allegedly kidnappers, have carried out a fatal attack, resulting in the death of Sylvanus Namang, the Plateau state spokesperson for the ruling APC party. READ FULL ARTICLE HERE
The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night at a recreational spot situated in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to Plateau police spokesperson Alfred Alabo, Mr. Namang was shot amidst the chaos caused by approximately seven individuals suspected to be kidnappers, who raided the leisure spot owned by Sunny Okonkwo.
Upon receiving notification of the attack, law enforcement swiftly responded, with Plateau Police Commissioner Hassan Steve Yabanet instructing the Area Commander and Pankshin Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators, who remain at large.
“The suspects fled the scene with severe gunshot wounds, while the victim was rescued and promptly transported to General Hospital, Pankshin, for treatment of gunshot and machete wounds,” disclosed Mr. Alabo.
Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, Mr. Namang succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by medical professionals at the General Hospital in Pankshin.
In response to the horrific incident, former Governor and APC stalwart Simon Lalong expressed profound shock and grief, urging security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Mr. Lalong emphasized his devastation upon learning of the “barbaric killing” of Mr. Namang, who was not only a respected journalist but also a distinguished politician and community leader.
This incident adds to the ongoing turmoil in Plateau State, which recently witnessed a devastating Christmas Eve massacre perpetrated by marauding herdsmen, resulting in numerous casualties among villagers.
