This authorization came about as a result of the adoption of a motion put forth by the House’s Leader, Lawan Hussaini (NNPP-Dala), during the plenary session.

In his presentation, Hussaini emphasized that the loan comes with a single-digit interest rate and thus would not have adverse effects on the state’s economy. He noted that upon completion, the project would contribute to the revitalization of struggling industries within the state.

The Tiga Independent Power Plant project was initially launched during the tenure of former Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso, with the goal of generating 35MW of electricity by utilizing Challawa and Tiga dams. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who assumed office in 2015, has continued to support and oversee the project.
