Speaker Blessing Agbebaku took the floor to declare the three-month suspension of Sunny Ojiezele, citing his alleged role in causing disunity among assembly members. This move marks Ojiezele as the first lawmaker to be suspended in the Eighth Assembly. The Speaker, during plenary, directed the Sergeant-at-arms to escort the two-time lawmaker out of the chambers.
Agbebaku emphasized, “The member representing Esan South-East, Sunny Ojiezele, is hereby suspended for three months. The suspension became necessary because of his actions, which are causing disunity among members.”
In another development, the assembly gave its approval to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s request to access a N2.2 billion agricultural palliative loan. The repayment plan for this loan is set at N94.3 million over a period of 24 months. This financial decision aligns with the state government’s efforts to support the agricultural sector.
Furthermore, the assembly granted approval for loans totaling N9.1 billion. These funds will be allocated for the construction of housing units in Asokoro, Abuja. Additionally, the assembly approved the procurement of 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for the Edo City Transport Service, enhancing the state’s public transportation infrastructure.
The decisions made during this session reflect the assembly’s commitment to addressing both internal matters, such as member conduct, and supporting the state’s developmental projects, including agriculture and public transportation initiatives.
