He explained that one letter was from the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, responding to their request for administrative intervention following the recusal of the previous judge. The second letter, from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, formally notified them of the reassignment.
Expressing gratitude, Kanu directed his legal team to publicly acknowledge the Chief Justice’s swift and decisive action. “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has instructed us to extend his sincere appreciation to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for her sound administrative discretion and the urgency with which she addressed our request,” Ejimakor stated.
Kanu also extended thanks to the public for their support in calling for his case to be reassigned.
Reaffirming his readiness for trial, Ejimakor stressed that Kanu has always been prepared to defend himself but faced setbacks due to judicial delays that began in September 2024.
“From the moment this ordeal began, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has maintained his willingness to face trial because he is convinced of his innocence. However, the disruptions of the past six months posed serious threats to his constitutional right to a fair and speedy hearing,” he emphasized.
He further noted that the legal team had to take extraordinary steps to push for due process, adding that now that the case has been reassigned, their focus will be on preparing a robust defense.
“With this crucial step now taken by the authorities, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his legal team will shift their attention to diligently preparing his defense,” Ejimakor concluded.
