The procurement of the presidential yacht has sparked considerable controversy, with Nigerians criticizing the move as insensitive, particularly in light of the nation’s economic challenges.

Senator Daniel explained that the committee had taken the initiative to conduct an investigation into the circumstances and issues concerning the contentious yacht within a brief timeframe of one week.
He stated: “The public outcry over the potential acquisition of the yacht has garnered significant attention since it was first reported in the media. Many Nigerians have expressed their concerns and disapproval, particularly about how such a luxury item could be included in the supplementary budget.
“Given the conflicting and contradictory reports circulating in the media regarding the acquisition of the presidential yacht, we have recognized the need for a comprehensive investigation. Our primary objective is to uncover the facts, dispel uncertainties, and provide the public with an accurate and thorough understanding of the situation.

“The committee has also resolved to conduct visits to all naval facilities across the country with the aim of prioritizing the training and welfare of naval personnel and veterans. This includes emphasizing the necessity for increased funding for the Nigerian Navy to effectively fulfill its crucial roles in the nation’s economic and security sectors.

“In addition, the committee has resolved to advocate for the modernization of the Nigerian Navy’s fleet, enhancement of its operational capabilities, and the promotion of naval research and development agencies.”
This move by the Senate signifies its commitment to addressing public concerns and ensuring accountability in government operations.
