Speaking at a stakeholder meeting where he presented the election guidelines and timetables for the upcoming Local Government election scheduled for November 30, 2024, Prof. Lawan refuted claims that he is a member of any political party.

“I am not a registered member of any political party, nor have I sought membership due to my role as a social critic and activist,” Prof. Lawan stated.

The KANSIEC Chairman assured that the commission is committed to conducting a fair election, free from interference, and cautioned political parties against electoral malpractice. “Election officials do not engage in election rigging; it is the politicians who are responsible for such acts,” he remarked.

He also announced that the fee for the Chairmanship nomination form is set at N10 million, while the councillorship form is priced at N5 million. Candidates for the Chairmanship position must be at least 30 years old, whereas those running for councillorship must be at least 25 years old.
