Sources familiar with the matter told TheCable that negotiations between Gawuna and the ADC are ongoing, although no final agreement has been reached.

One source close to the talks said discussions remain at a preliminary stage.

“It’s true that contacts have been made. Gawuna’s associates approached the party regarding the governorship ticket, but the process is still ongoing,” the source disclosed.

ADC Acknowledges Ongoing Negotiations

The Kano State Chairman of the ADC, Musa Ungogo, confirmed that discussions were taking place but declined to reveal further details.

“The report is accurate, but I’m not in a position to speak extensively on it at the moment,” Ungogo said.

Attempts to get a reaction from Gawuna’s camp were unsuccessful, as his media aide, Abubakar Musa, could not be reached for comment.

Political Moves Ahead of 2027

The latest development comes months after Gawuna resigned as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

His media aide announced on March 30, 2026, that he had stepped down from the position to concentrate on his political ambition of contesting the Kano governorship election in 2027.

A day later, reports indicated that Gawuna joined the ADC and received his membership card in Gawuna Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

However, his political journey reportedly took another turn shortly afterwards when he was said to have left the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

While in the NDC, he aligned himself with the party’s vice-presidential candidate and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

According to reports, Gawuna joined the NDC on May 4 and was later named the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial District in the next general election.

Despite those developments, fresh discussions with the ADC have now fueled speculation about his political plans ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
