The Kano State Government, on Thursday, ordered the immediate release of funds to contractors for the completion of the abandoned five-kilometre road projects across the 44 local government areas in the state.

Governor Abba Yusuf made this announcement shortly after meeting with the contractors at the Government House.

He instructed that all pending compensation issues be resolved and that contractors return to the project sites within one week.

It is worth recalling that former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso initiated these 5-kilometre rural road projects during his tenure, which were later abandoned for unexplained reasons.

The failure to complete the roads drew criticism from the immediate past administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.

Governor Yusuf also directed the immediate release of a 30 per cent upfront payment to the contractors, along with a review of costs due to rising prices of construction materials, and strategic monthly payments to ensure the projects do not stall again.
