The multi-billion-naira facility, located at the Chalawa Industrial Area, was constructed under the administration of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to serve as a modern meat-processing hub capable of generating revenue and creating jobs for Kano residents. However, it was allegedly sold off during Ganduje’s tenure.
Speaking at the inauguration on behalf of the governor, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ibrahim, explained that the probe is aimed at holding the immediate past administration accountable and safeguarding public assets suspected to have been sold for personal enrichment.
The committee, chaired by former head of the Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has been tasked with reviewing all documents, agreements, and approvals related to the abattoir transaction. They are also mandated to recover any misappropriated assets and recommend appropriate sanctions against those found culpable.
“The committee is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sale of the land and equipment at the NIMAP Abattoir, verify compliance with relevant laws and due process, and determine the roles of individuals or agencies involved,” the SSG said.
He further noted that the panel will also suggest preventive measures against future misuse of public property and propose the establishment of a modern abattoir that meets international standards.
In his remarks, Rimin-Gado assured the government of a fair and unbiased investigation, vowing that the task would be executed with diligence and integrity.
