Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, as the election winner and ordered the Commission to issue him a Certificate of Return.
In response to Abba Yusuf’s removal by the tribunal, the INEC has stated in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that it has no grounds for appealing the judgment.
The letter, signed by the Head of Department (HOD), Legal, INEC, Suleiman Alkali, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), mentioned that the Commission had received directives from its national office to withdraw the appeal and all related processes.
The letter stated, “I have been directed by the Commission headquarters that INEC, as an impartial entity, has no basis to appeal any judgment. Consequently, the National Commissioner responsible for Legal Services and the National Commissioner responsible for the Kano zone are instructed to withdraw the Appeal, and all associated processes should be forwarded to the Kano Office.”
