Sources reveal that the family members were returning from a local market where they had gone to purchase supplies for a seven-day prayer ceremony in memory of their late mother, Malama Aishetu Tahir, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
A family insider confirmed the ransom demand, saying, “The kidnappers contacted the family on Friday afternoon, requesting ₦50 million. While negotiations are ongoing, no ransom has been paid yet, and the victims remain in captivity.”
The Kogi State Police confirmed the incident, with Public Relations Officer William Aya stating that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area had already deployed officers to track down the criminals and secure the victims’ release. Police Commissioner Bethrand Onuoha has also ordered the deployment of tactical units to aid the rescue operation.
Aya assured the public that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the safe return of the victims and to bring the perpetrators to justice. This abduction underscores the growing security concerns affecting residents of Kogi State.
