Muhammadu Yahaya, Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum and Governor of Gombe State, underscored the necessity for economic and human capacity development to overcome the region’s security woes. He emphasized that long-term economic growth is pivotal in resolving security issues.
Yahaya highlighted the alarming statistic that Northern Nigeria harbors the highest number of out-of-school children globally, posing a grave threat to security. He stressed the importance of revitalizing the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) as a central aspect of the economic agenda for the region. Furthermore, he urged innovative investment in critical infrastructure to unlock the region’s vast industrial and economic potentials.
The governors also prioritized human capital development, recognizing it as vital for the region’s progress and prosperity. They expressed deep concern over the high number of out-of-school children and emphasized the moral obligation to invest significantly in education, skills development, healthcare, and social services to empower future generations.
