According to Naija News, the ruling was delivered by a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Sadiq Umar. The court upheld the victory of Ododo, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, by dismissing an appeal filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Yakubu Muritala Ajaka. The appeal, registered as SC/CV/654/2024, was deemed without merit.
The court resolved all three issues raised in the appeal against the appellants. Additionally, a similar appeal by the Action Alliance (AA) and its candidate, Olayinka Baimoh, seeking to overturn Ododo’s victory, was also dismissed. This appeal, marked SC/CV/653/2024, was rejected because it was filed outside the 14-day period required by law.
Justice Sadiq Umar, who delivered the lead judgment, emphasized that the preliminary objection regarding the appeal’s competence was valid, making it unnecessary to address other issues raised. The appeal was dismissed, and a cost of ₦5 million was awarded against the appellants in favor of the respondents.
