Kwankwaso argued that backing Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima would facilitate a smoother transition of power back to the North following the president’s second term. Speaking to reporters in Kano, he expressed concern over divisive rhetoric and criticism aimed at Tinubu from certain northern factions, labeling these actions as harmful to the region’s long-term interests.

“Patriotic northern politicians should not listen to calls for alternative candidates from the South,” Kwankwaso stated. “If another candidate wins in 2027, the North might face an extended wait of eight years for power to return.”

He dismissed suggestions that the nation’s current security issues should hinder support for Tinubu, recognizing the president’s ongoing efforts to combat armed banditry and instability, especially in the North.

Highlighting the recent achievements of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, in tackling banditry in the North and Northwest, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for unity among northern politicians to bolster Tinubu’s administration.

He also addressed speculation regarding former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso potentially running as a vice-presidential candidate alongside a Southern politician, warning that such a move could postpone the North’s return to power until 2035.

Kwankwaso concluded by urging northern citizens to support Tinubu, stating, “The best support we can offer President Tinubu is to unite behind him with our prayers and efforts to foster peace in the country.
