This appointment follows his 19-month tenure as Acting Vice-Chancellor and his top ranking in the university’s governing council screening.

Previously serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 2020 to 2022, Shaykh-Lukman brings extensive administrative and academic experience to the role. He is celebrated for his scholarly achievements, including distinctions such as Best Graduating Student and memberships in prestigious professional bodies.

Shaykh-Lukman, aged 60 and hailing from Igbaja, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, assumes leadership following the passing of Professor Mohammed Mustapha-Akanbi in 2022. Governor AbdulRazaq also approved the transition of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, into the University of Education, enhancing educational infrastructure in the state.
