The statement detailed the reasons for the expulsions, citing offenses such as cheating during exams, theft, falsification of academic records for admission, physical violence, fraud, affiliation with unrecognized groups, and illegal possession of weapons, among others.

According to the statement, “This announcement informs the public that 175 students have been expelled from Kwara State University, Malete, for various infractions. The decision to expel them was based on recommendations from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, which conducted hearings between October 2021 and March 2024.

“The expelled students were found guilty of offenses including exam malpractices, theft, falsification of admission credentials, assault, fraud, involvement in unregistered organizations, and possession of firearms.

“The management of Kwara State University reaffirms its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of misconduct, emphasizing its dedication to nurturing graduates who excel both in character and learning.”

In a related incident, four KWASU students were recently arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in connection with the death of another student within the university community in Malete, Moro local government area. The arrests followed a confrontation at a private hostel off-campus, where the deceased student was allegedly filming the suspects without consent. This led to a violent altercation resulting in fatal injuries to the victim.

Details surrounding the incident were confirmed by State Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), who stated, “The suspects, four in number, have been apprehended, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
