Labour Party Breaks Silence: No Plan To Expel Peter Obi – Usman Faction Fires Back At Rumours
The Labour Party (LP), led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has firmly denied allegations that it is planning a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to expel its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Responding swiftly to comments made by former factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, on Channels Morning Brief on Tuesday, the party dismissed the claims as “laughable” and described them as “the desperate final kicks of a dying horse.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser to the Acting National Chairman, condemned the reports, stating that those allegedly plotting Obi’s expulsion are not recognized members of the party and lack any legal authority to act on its behalf.
“The attention of the Labour Party has been drawn to plans by a group of political jesters—unknown to the Party but masquerading as members—to convene a sham meeting aimed at causing confusion and sabotaging ongoing coalition talks involving Mr. Peter Obi,” the statement read.
“These impostors, working on behalf of hidden interests, aim to falsely claim the expulsion of Mr. Obi from the party—a move both ridiculous and unlawful.”
The party called on Nigerians to ignore the antics of what it described as “political comedians” attempting to erode Obi’s credibility and disrupt his efforts to build a national coalition for change.
Reaffirming its support for Obi, the statement cited a May 25, 2025, declaration, which made clear that Obi’s participation in the coalition talks had the full endorsement of the party leadership.
“For clarity, the Labour Party reiterates that Mr. Peter Obi’s involvement in coalition discussions is fully supported and encouraged by the Party’s leadership,” it emphasized.
The party further urged the media and public to disregard any statements from these “discredited actors” whose only relevance lies in attacking Obi.
“They know their charade is ending. Their influence—based solely on targeting Peter Obi—will disappear once he officially aligns with the emerging political platform.
“This latest stunt should be seen for what it is: the desperate flailing of political irrelevance.”
The statement also reminded the public that a Supreme Court ruling on April 4, 2025, had confirmed the expiration of the mandate of those attempting to speak on behalf of the party.
“With no legal or moral authority to represent Labour Party interests, their pronouncements hold no weight.
“For authentic updates on party affairs, the media and public are advised to consult only the office of the Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman.”
