Labour Party Explodes: “INEC Stole Our Candidates, Robbed Nigerians Of Their Franchise
The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for excluding the party’s candidates from the August 16 by-elections across the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the INWC described INEC’s action as a blatant violation of a Supreme Court judgment, which had recognised a new leadership for the Labour Party.
The statement further accused the Julius Abure-led faction of colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to deliberately block the Labour Party from appearing on the ballot.
According to the INWC, the Supreme Court has clearly affirmed the legitimacy of Senator Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the party’s authentic leaders. It argued that INEC cannot deny being in possession of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment.
The committee apologised to all candidates who had prepared and campaigned for the August 16 by-elections but were unfairly denied participation. It insisted that if given a fair contest, Labour Party candidates would have defeated the APC.
The statement added that measures are already being taken to prevent the party from being disenfranchised in future elections.
“We share in your pains, knowing the sacrifices you made — from campaign costs, mobilisation efforts, and logistics, to the psychological trauma of being denied your constitutional right at the last minute,” the INWC said. “This was a tripartite conspiracy involving Abure’s expired council and INEC’s failure to implement the Supreme Court ruling of April 4, all in line with the agenda of their political masters.”
