Describing the violence as a “renewed surge of brutal and senseless attacks,” the party warned that Nigeria cannot afford to continue down this dangerous path.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairperson, Senator Nenadi Usman, demanded a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of the perpetrators, regardless of their influence or connections.
Senator Usman expressed deep sorrow over the massacre of more than 100 victims, including women, children, displaced persons, and security personnel, as well as the widespread destruction of homes and livelihoods.
“These were not just statistics—they were human lives, brutally extinguished. Children who should’ve been safe were murdered. Mothers were buried in mass graves. Fathers defending their homes were slaughtered without compassion,” she lamented.
Highlighting the continued burning of homes, targeting of displaced persons, and assaults on security operatives, Usman said the violence illustrates the government’s growing inability to protect its citizens.
“This bloodshed in Benue should awaken every conscience. It’s no longer just a regional tragedy—it’s a national embarrassment. The brazenness of these attacks and the helplessness of the victims reflect a disturbing void in leadership and accountability,” she stated.
Beyond military intervention, the Labour Party called for a coordinated humanitarian response—including food aid, shelter, medical treatment, and trauma care for the affected populations.
Usman urged Nigerians to go beyond empty condemnations and demand real, lasting solutions, stressing that silence and indifference only embolden the perpetrators.
“To the grieving families, I mourn with you—not just as a leader, but as a mother. To the orphans, widows, and shattered communities, your pain is not forgotten. Your cries for justice must be answered,” she said.
She reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to championing policies that protect the safety, dignity, and lives of all Nigerians—especially those in rural and conflict-prone areas.
