Lady Opens Up On Why She Quit Going To Church, Says I Was Surprised

A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing the experience that led her to stop attending church.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman, identified as @maxnonso on X, said she moved to Uyo for an assignment and began attending a church close to her residence.

She explained that she had consistently paid her tithe for seven months before missing payments for almost two months after her salary was delayed. Although she intended to settle the outstanding tithe, an encounter with her pastor reportedly changed her decision to continue attending the church.

According to her account, the pastor confronted her over the unpaid tithe and allegedly told her, “You’re eating God’s money. If you continue like this, you’ll never move forward.”

The comment reportedly left her surprised and contributed to her decision to stop attending the church. She said the pastor continued calling her afterward, but she refused to return.

The lady further disclosed that she subsequently began directing her tithe to an orphanage instead of returning to the church.

Her account has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with several users discussing the pastor’s approach and the circumstances surrounding her decision.

One user argued that the pastor’s awareness of the missing tithe before checking on the woman’s wellbeing was concerning, while another said financial difficulties should not make people feel condemned within a religious community.
