Lady Stunned After Stranger Sends Huge Amount, Quickly Blocks Number
A Nigerian lady identified as @itzchristunique on X, formerly known as Twitter, has shared her experience after receiving what appeared to be a ₦500,000 bank alert from an unknown person.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman said the money appeared to have been sent to her OPay account, after which she received a phone call from an unfamiliar number.
She explained that during the conversation, the caller informed her that the money had allegedly been sent to her by mistake and said he would provide another account number for her to make a refund. She agreed to the arrangement.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when she checked her account and discovered that the ₦500,000 had not actually reflected in her available balance.
Suspecting that the transaction could be part of a fraudulent scheme, the woman said she immediately blocked the caller’s number.
Her experience has since attracted reactions on X, with several users warning others to be cautious when receiving unexpected bank alerts from unknown individuals.
One user said people should no longer rely solely on SMS notifications, stressing that a transaction should be verified directly through the bank or account balance before any refund is made.
Another commenter claimed that similar schemes involve fraudulent or manipulated messages designed to resemble genuine bank notifications.
The incident has renewed discussions about the importance of independently verifying unexpected payments and avoiding refunds until the money has been confirmed as genuinely credited to an account.
