Lady Stunned As Rejected Man Returns Years Later Asking Her For A Gift

A Nigerian woman has shared her experience on social media after a man she previously turned down for a relationship allegedly asked her to buy him Apple AirPods as a gift.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman, identified as @Nsemeke_ on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the man initially approached her about a relationship but later suggested that they remain friends after she made it clear that she was not interested in dating him.

She explained that she agreed to the friendship and maintained communication with him, including assisting him when he claimed he had run out of mobile data.

“I told you I wasn’t interested in a relationship. You said we could just be friends. I didn’t block you. You started calling, I had no problem with that,” she wrote.

According to the woman, the man later told her that he had no data and asked her to subscribe for him. She said she agreed to help.

“Then you said you had no data and asked me to subscribe for you. I did,” she stated.

She said that a few days later, she congratulated him after he informed her that he had passed an examination. However, she claimed that his response to her congratulatory message left her surprised.

According to her, instead of simply appreciating the gesture, the man asked what she intended to give him as a reward for passing the examination.

“Few days later you passed an exam, I congratulated you like a good friend. Next message? You’re telling me what to gift you for smashing it,” she wrote.

The woman said she initially assumed he was joking but later realised that he was serious after he reportedly called to remind her about the gift.

“I thought you were joking. You called to remind me. I played along and you foolishly said Apple AirPods,” she alleged.

Reacting to the request, she questioned why she should purchase such an expensive gift for someone who was neither her partner nor someone she had met physically.

“It’s not your birthday. I’m not your girlfriend, we’ve never seen each other and I have never asked you for anything,” she stated.

She further alleged that the man suggested that the AirPods be purchased from outside the country, which she said made the situation even more surprising.

“You even had the nerve to say we should buy it outside the country,” she added.

Her account has since generated reactions online, with social media users discussing the expectations and boundaries that can arise in friendships between people who have not met physically.
