Lagos Authorities Announce Massive 8-Month Traffic Diversion On Lekki-Ajah Road

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on the Lekki-Ajah corridor to facilitate extensive road rehabilitation.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the plan in an official statement, noting that construction will begin on November 15, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude by July 15, 2026.

To minimize traffic disruption, the project will be executed in two phases. The first phase will cover the stretch from Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate, while the second phase will extend from Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Underbridge.

The government clarified that some portions of the road will be partially closed during the works and urged commuters to remain patient and adhere to traffic guidelines.

The statement read in part:

• Phase 1 (Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate): The work will be carried out in seven sections. One lane will be closed at a time while traffic uses the remaining lane. Upon completion of a section, work will shift to the other lane, ensuring motorists heading towards Lekki/Ajah can maintain movement.

• Phase 2 (Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Underbridge): The project will cover four sections. Motorists traveling from Ajah to Lekki will use one lane while repairs are ongoing on the other lane. Once a lane is completed, work will move to the second lane, allowing traffic towards Ajah to continue flowing.

Osiyemi emphasized that these roadworks are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to enhance road quality and improve traffic flow along the busy Lekki-Ajah corridor.
