Asibe is charged with three counts, including fraud, obtaining by pretence, and stealing. Police prosecutor Inspector Cyriacus Osuji informed the court that the alleged offenses occurred between February and May 2024 in the Igando area of Lagos.

Osuji accused Asibe of deceitfully acquiring N13 million from Alhaji Suleiman Bawale under the pretense of selling him a plot of land. The prosecutor stated that Asibe collected the funds in two payments: N8 million and N5 million.

“In February, Asibe fraudulently obtained N8 million from the complainant, promising to deliver land, which he failed to do. He then solicited an additional N5 million in May, again without providing the promised land,” Osuji explained.

The charges against Asibe contravene Sections 313 and 280 (1) (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, and are punishable under Sections 314 (1) (a) (b) (3) and 287.

Upon arraignment before Magistrate Feyikemi George, Asibe pleaded not guilty. The magistrate subsequently granted him bail of N1 million, requiring two sureties with the same bail amount. The sureties must provide three months of bank statements showing a minimum balance of N1 million and have their addresses verified.

The case has been adjourned until October 30, 2024, for further mention.
