Lagos Government Disowns Woman Caught In Viral Bribe Video — ‘She’s Not Our Staff

The Lagos State Safety Commission has disowned a woman seen in a viral video allegedly collecting bribes from residents in the Oworonshoki area, clarifying that she is not affiliated with the agency.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Okoh Adewunmi, the Commission declared that the woman, identified as Mariam Bunmi, “is not and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission.”

The statement read in part:

“The said Mariam Bunmi is unknown to the Commission in any capacity. She does not work for us and has never been on our payroll.”

Reaffirming its commitment to integrity and transparency, the Commission stressed that it operates a zero-tolerance policy for corruption, extortion, and any form of unethical conduct.

It further urged Lagos residents to disregard the viral video and remain alert to fraudsters impersonating government officials.

“Our mandate is to ensure the safety of lives and property across Lagos. We advise members of the public to remain vigilant and report anyone claiming to represent the Commission while demanding payment,” the statement added.

The agency also encouraged residents to use its official channels for verification and reporting, assuring that it would continue to enforce safety compliance across the state while protecting citizens from fraudulent practices carried out in its name.
