In an open letter to the state government, Doherty raised concerns about the use of taxpayers’ money for church renovation and questioned other expenses, including ₦24.5 million for the Commissioner of Police’s residence.
In response, Commissioner of Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso stated that the church and the Oba of Lagos palace’s renovation is part of the government’s social responsibility.
Omotoso clarified that the funds cover compensation for the church’s demolition during road construction, emphasizing the historical significance of these landmarks.
