Lagos Police Apprehend Motorcycle Thieves Using Pepper Spray On Victims

On February 15, 2024, the Lagos State Police apprehended two individuals, Ayuba Oyegbele and Ojo Gbolahan, who were part of an armed robbery gang specializing in using pepper spray to rob commercial motorcyclists. As the motorcyclist reached Obasanjo Bridge, Gbolahan pretended to settle the fare but instead sprayed dry pepper into the rider’s eyes. The assailants then proceeded to assault the rider in an attempt to steal his motorcycle. Alert passers-by intervened, overpowering the suspects and taking them to Alagbado Police Station.

SP Ben Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations revealed the suspects were habitual offenders targeting motorcyclists. The police are actively pursuing other members of the gang.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address criminal acti:vities in the region, with the public playing a crucial role in thwarting such robbery attempts. The suspects are now in custody and will face legal consequences for their actions.
