Residents were urged to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas for their safety. An estate management in the community issued a notice warning residents about the situation, highlighting the danger in the vicinity.

Bukunmi Folahanmi, a local resident, expressed her concern, stating that she would not be going to work on Tuesday due to the incident. “It’s a daylight assassination. I’m staying home until Wednesday. Although vigilante groups have been deployed in the area, I’m still concerned,” she said.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred around 12:30 pm. He revealed that Demola Akinloye, aged 50, was attacked while driving his black Toyota Corolla near Bourdillon Court Estate gate. The attackers, identified as four armed men in a white minibus, shot and stabbed him to death.

The police have since visited the scene, recovered an expended cartridge, and moved the body to a morgue in Ajah for preservation and autopsy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for further investigation.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous shared that the gunmen deliberately collided with Demola’s vehicle, attacking him when he stepped out to inspect the damage. “When the bus hit his car, he got out to check, and that’s when they attacked him. Everyone around fled in fear, and the gunmen left him bleeding at the scene,” the resident recounted.

Another source speculated that the attack might have been motivated by a desire for the throne, as Demola was the heir apparent. However, this claim has not been independently verified.

A family member, who also chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the family is in deep mourning. He said, “We were devastated by the news. Demola was dearly loved by his father and bore a striking resemblance to him. The palace is in a state of grief, and both the king and family members are not receiving visitors at the moment.
