Coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, the protest has attracted a significant number of demonstrators who gathered at Ikeja Underbridge to voice their grievances. Organized under the banner #FearlessOctober1, the protest is taking place under strict security measures, with a notable presence of law enforcement.

Security personnel, including police officers, members of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and officials from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), are closely monitoring the demonstration.

Civil society groups such as the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League are playing leading roles in the protest.

According to Naija News, this event marks the second mass demonstration in two months as Nigerians express their frustrations over the country’s worsening economic conditions.

The organizers have indicated that the #FearlessOctober1 protest is a continuation of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held from August 1 to 10. They emphasize that the protest responds to the government’s failure to tackle critical issues, including rising hunger, inflation, security concerns, governmental inefficiency, electoral reforms, and the need for improved human capital development.
