Gawat emphasized that the concept of a state-owned airport in Ibeju Lekki has been under consideration for a considerable period, and while progress has been made, there are still various aspects that require careful planning and execution.
During the Lagos West People’s Town Hall Meeting, a participant inquired about the possibility of Lagos State establishing a state-owned airline similar to ‘Ibom Air’ to complement the forthcoming airport in the Ibeju-Lekki/Epe region. Gawat’s post revealed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s response to this query, stating that the idea has been on the table for a while but requires further groundwork.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the same town hall meeting on Thursday, disclosed that the plan for the state-owned airport has been in development for several months. He mentioned that the state is currently finalizing the financing model for the project, with considerations including federal government approval and operational contingencies for the proposed airline.
