During the #EndSARS protests in 2020, incidents of arson, including the destruction of a Bus Rapid Transit terminal, were reported along with loss of lives.
Amid plans for a forthcoming protest from August 1 to August 10, 2024, due to economic challenges, Salu-Hundeyin acknowledged citizens’ right to protest but stressed the need for peaceful expression without disrupting the state’s tranquility.
She highlighted the strides made by Lagos State in areas such as pension disbursement, healthcare reforms like Ilera Eko and the New Insurance Medical Schemes, infrastructure projects like the university and blue line rail, urging protestors to avoid actions that could undermine progress.
Akeem Dauda, Chairman of Scribe 57 and Ikeja SLG, echoed concerns about the planned protest’s necessity, emphasizing efforts to dissuade participation and uphold the achievements under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership.
