Lagos To Implement E-Call Up System On Lekki-Epe Axis Starting September 23

The Lagos State Government is set to introduce an e-call up system on September 23, 2024, to regulate truck movements within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion and enhance logistics operations in light of the expected surge in truck traffic with the full operation of the Dangote refinery.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, detailed that the new system will coordinate truck access to the Lekki Deep Seaport and other key industries within the corridor. He also outlined plans for expanding road networks and developing inter-modal transport systems to manage vehicular traffic more effectively.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, stressed the need for adherence to the new system, highlighting an interim measure to clear illegal tankers from congested zones to ease road traffic.

The e-call up system will manage truck entry and exit by scheduling and coordinating their movements, thus preventing traffic chaos caused by indiscriminate parking and movement. This system is vital for ensuring smooth operations in the Lekki-Epe corridor, which houses the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, and Lekki Deep Sea Port. Effective logistics management in this area is crucial for the state’s economic growth, making the e-call up system a key component for sustainable development.
