In a statement released on Thursday, the council, which includes chairpersons and secretaries from various unions, such as Olusegun Balogun and Aladetan Abiodun of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, noted that they learned of the wage increase through the media.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during a television interview, stating his administration’s commitment to the new minimum wage. The union explained that on October 16, 2024, they were invited to a meeting to discuss the minimum wage but emphasized that formal negotiations could not occur without the presence of all relevant stakeholders.
The council insisted on inclusive discussions, leading to the meeting being rescheduled for October 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. Therefore, they found the public announcement of the wage figure unexpected but clarified that this did not diminish the governor’s right to address governance issues publicly.
