LaLiga Twist: Lookman Injury Setback Ahead Of Bilbao Clash Opens Door For Barcelona

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has confirmed that Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman will miss tonight’s LaLiga clash against Athletic Bilbao scheduled for 8 p.m. on April 25.

Lookman suffered an adductor injury during last weekend’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad and subsequently missed Atletico’s 1-0 loss to Elche CF on Tuesday. Any hopes of an early return have now been ruled out.

Simeone explained the situation, saying Lookman is not yet fit for selection and noted that the decision to substitute him during the cup final helped prevent further damage.

The 28-year-old is now focused on recovering in time for Atletico’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal on Wednesday, April 29.

Meanwhile in LaLiga, Barcelona could extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points if they defeat Getafe CF, following Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Friday night. Madrid initially led through Vinicius Junior before a late equaliser from Hector Bellerin dented their title hopes, leaving them eight points behind with five games remaining.

Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa also addressed Kylian Mbappe’s substitution during the match, revealing the French forward was taken off due to discomfort. He added that the club will monitor his condition in the coming days.
