He remarked that he anticipated Kanu to address the allegations against him in court, especially following discussions by Southeast senators with the Attorney-General, who have examined the case’s intricacies.

Akande stated, “Nnamdi Kanu’s case is highly sensitive, intertwining issues of law, order, and politics. While some advocate for his prosecution to validate accusations linked to him, Southeast leaders perceive it more as a political issue, proposing his release under guarantees of preventing future unrest.”

Expressing admiration for Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s outspokenness, Akande disagreed with doubts about proving Kanu’s culpability in court, proposing a fair judicial process. He added, “The legal system is designed for fairness and transparency. If guilty, pardons for political expediency might be considered; if innocent, acquittal is warranted.”
