Despite receiving eviction notices, some occupants chose to remain in the building. Upon the agency’s Response Team’s arrival at 09:33 hours on Monday, October 14, they found that the building had collapsed.
The agency’s statement noted, “The cause of the collapse was attributed to distress. LASBCA confirmed that the occupants had been warned about the building’s condition, yet some still refused to leave.”
Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported, as all occupants managed to evacuate before the collapse, recognizing the signs of imminent danger. Following the incident, LASEMA secured the area and ensured that any remaining occupants were safely evacuated.
Earlier reports indicated that the building fell during the early hours of Monday, with videos circulating online showing the structure caving in while nearby residents fled for safety.
