Akerele contested the governor’s statement, stating that it was not substantiated by actual developmental efforts in the region.
Akerele stepped down from his position before the end of Obaseki’s first term due to unresolvable conflicts linked to the governor’s feud with his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.
Obaseki had made the declaration in Igarra, the Akoko-Edo local government area’s headquarters, while swearing in new Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs).
In a statement released and addressed to journalists in Benin City, Akerele emphasized that the Chief of Staff role is a personal selection by the governor and not an obligation to the people.
He questioned, “Can my appointment singularly drive development in Akoko-Edo? Why does the governor persist in referencing an appointment from over seven years ago as a significant accomplishment for a community in need of substantial growth and advancement?
