Governor Dr. Alex Otti revealed this during his late-night monthly media chat for October titled “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” at the Government House in Umuahia, the state capital.
He explained that security agencies uncovered these findings during extensive search operations conducted within and around the market due to repeated reports of security incidents in the area.
These issues included kidnapping, armed robbery, prostitution, drug trade, and other social problems. As a response to these concerns, some brothels were recently demolished.
To change the situation, Otti’s administration has decided to transform the market into a daily general market with various sections, including a livestock area.
He also announced that the market’s operational hours would be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and efforts are underway to enhance security by constructing a protective fence around it.
