Nigeria Police Present N1.6 Billion to Families of Fallen Officers
In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, has disbursed N1.6 billion to 727 families of deceased police officers. This sum represents insurance claims for the fallen officers, encompassing the years 2018/2019, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 under the Group Life Assurance Policy of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Egbetokun emphasized that this act exemplifies the Nigeria Police’s gratitude towards its fallen heroes, portraying the force’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families, even those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He reassured serving officers that both the nation and the force stand steadfastly by their side.
This marks the fifth occasion of such presentations since Mr. Egbetokun assumed office in 2023, underscoring the ongoing dedication of the current police leadership to prioritize the welfare of its personnel.
During the distribution ceremony, Mr. Egbetokun outlined the breakdown of the disbursements across different categories. The first category comprised N55.8 million for 311 beneficiaries, representing the remaining 5% balance of the Group Life Assurance Policy payments for specific insurance years. The second category included N761.5 million for 178 beneficiaries, covering 90% of the Group Life Assurance policy payments for designated insurance periods.
Furthermore, the third category consisted of a N567.5 million allocation for 78 beneficiaries, constituting 100% of the Group Life Assurance policy payment for a specific insurance year. The fourth category entailed N96.9 million for 86 beneficiaries, representing a portion of the Group Life Assurance policy payment for a particular insurance year. Lastly, the final category accounted for a N113.2 million disbursement, ensuring full payment for 149 beneficiaries across designated policy years.
