Reports from DAILY POST indicate that the incident occurred near Haj Estate on Wednesday, where the deceased resided with his young wife and daughter.

The situation escalated when Anene, on his way home, collided with a motorcycle taxi and its passenger in the vicinity. Witnesses state that Anene ensured the well-being of the motorcycle rider and passenger before proceeding home.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, insisting that Anene accompany them to the station, leading to a confrontation.

Eyewitnesses claim that one of the officers discharged a teargas canister directly into Anene’s eye from close range.

Anene was promptly taken to Kubwa General Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the officer responsible for the “accidental discharge” is currently under custody.

SP Adeh stated that FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, vehemently denounces the unprofessional behavior of the officer and assures the family and the public of prompt justice.
