Leaked Memo Reveals APC’s High-Stakes Plan To Keep Buhari From Powering Opposition Comeback
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governors are intensifying efforts to prevent former President Muhammadu Buhari and his loyalists from aligning with opposition leaders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to insiders who spoke with Punch, the recent high-profile visits to Buhari’s Kaduna residence were driven by growing unease over his perceived detachment from the party’s current direction. While the visits were officially described as Sallah greetings, sources within the APC National Secretariat revealed that they were actually prompted by concerns over Buhari’s “body language,” which many believe signals a potential drift toward the opposition.
One insider explained,
“There’s a real concern that the former president has become distant and has offered minimal support to the current administration. Opposition leaders have seized on his neutrality to suggest that his loyalty to the APC is fading. That’s why the National Working Committee felt the need to pay him a visit—to reaffirm his allegiance and counteract any negative narratives, especially among his northern base.”
The source further noted that the North’s growing discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration has only deepened worries that Buhari could become a rallying point for disaffected party members.
“The party understands the North is not pleased with Tinubu’s leadership and may not back his re-election. The APC leadership is trying to ensure Buhari doesn’t become accessible to opposition figures who see him as a valuable ally.”
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the insider added:
“There’s now a stronger realization that Buhari’s passive stance is dangerous. His actions—and even his silence—are being scrutinized. Party leaders are stepping up engagement to prevent the opposition, especially Atiku Abubakar and his allies, from hijacking his influence.”
