“Learn From Asiwaju!” – Showunmi Commends Tinubu’s Role In Ending Rivers Crisis

Reacting to the mended ties between embattled Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political benefactor Nyesom Wike, Segun Showunmi — who once served as Atiku Abubakar’s spokesman — shared his thoughts on the development.

Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday night, Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara announced that they had reconciled and were ready to work together. Wike stated after the meeting that all parties involved in the conflict had agreed to put aside their differences, declaring that peace had returned to Rivers State.

The rift between Wike and Fubara had begun shortly after Fubara assumed office as governor in 2023. The escalating political tension eventually prompted President Tinubu to suspend Fubara and declare a state of emergency in the state.

In reaction to their reconciliation, Segun Showunmi, former spokesman to Atiku Abubakar, shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), praising President Tinubu’s conflict resolution skills. He remarked that Tinubu’s approach to leadership is worthy of study.

Showunmi wrote:
“This is real leadership! A true leader solves problems, not compounds them. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with studying Asiwaju @officialABAT. We study foreign leaders all the time — it’s limiting and colonial-minded to believe we can’t learn from our own. Mr. President, you did well on this one.”
