Legal Battle Over Emirship: Court Reschedules Hearing Date

The Kano State High Court, on Tuesday, postponed the hearing of an application in the ongoing Kano Emirship Tussle case to July 4th. The Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Assembly itself, represented by Ibrahim Isah-Wangida Esq, filed a motion ex parte dated May 27.

Their application seeks to restrain the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and the dethroned emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from acting as traditional rulers. The respondents include Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero (Emir of Bichi), Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II (Emir of Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa (Emir of Rano), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya (Emir of Gaya), as well as the Inspector-General of Police, Director of the State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Nigeria Army.

During the hearing, Eyitayo Fatogun SAN, counsel for the applicants, informed the court that they received five processes from the first respondent on July 1st at approximately 6:30 p.m. He requested a brief standdown to allow them to serve their responses, to which Abdul Muhammed SAN, representing Ado-Bayero, objected, proposing an adjournment to respond and file additional applications.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the proceedings to July 4th to hear all pending applications and originating motions.
