Legal Showdown: Akpabio’s Wife Sues Senator Natasha, Demands ₦250 Billion In Damages

The wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Unoma Akpabio, has taken legal action against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment leveled against her husband.

Unoma Akpabio filed fundamental rights and defamation lawsuits at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, seeking ₦250 billion in damages over Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims.

The Kogi senator had accused Akpabio of victimizing her in the Senate, alleging that he was punishing her for rejecting his sexual advances, which she claimed happened even in the presence of her husband.

Unoma Akpabio Denies Allegations, Takes Legal Action

In response, Unoma Akpabio dismissed the accusations as false and politically motivated, vowing to take legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan for defamation and violation of fundamental rights.

The fundamental rights suit, filed under Suit No: CV/814/25, is based on Section 34(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and other legal provisions, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.

Among her demands, she seeks:

A declaration that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statements made in the Senate and during an Arise News interview constitute a violation of her fundamental rights.
A perpetual injunction restraining the senator from making further “inciteful, scandalous, and defamatory” statements that have allegedly caused emotional and psychological distress to her and her children.
