Legislative Panel Advocates For New Planes For Nigerian President And VP

The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has recommended that the Federal Government purchase new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

This recommendation was made in a report issued by the committee after investigating the status of the aircraft in the presidential air fleet.

“The committee strongly believes that, given the fragile nature of the Nigerian federation and the severe consequences of any potential mishap due to the technical or operational inadequacies of the presidential air fleet, it is in the country’s best interest to acquire two additional aircraft as recommended. This approach will also prove cost-efficient in the long term, providing a suitable, comfortable, and safe carrier befitting the roles of the president and vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the committee’s report stated.

In May, the House of Representatives tasked the committee with conducting a “comprehensive investigation” into the aircraft in the presidential fleet to determine their airworthiness and technical status.

This resolution followed a motion sponsored by Satomi Ahmed, chairman of the House Committee.
