Let Me Rest!” – Wole Soyinka Reveals Why He’s Yet To Comment On Tinubu’s Performance
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has revealed why he has yet to publicly evaluate the administration of President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with BBC News Yoruba, published on Facebook on Tuesday, the celebrated writer said he has chosen to remain cautious, fearing that any comment he makes could be misinterpreted or distorted.
Soyinka explained that he prefers to take his time before sharing his assessment of Tinubu’s government.
“I’ve been asked that question by several people,” he said in Yoruba. “I don’t want to respond because it seems that whatever one says will be twisted — and I’m tired of that.”
“So, I’ll take my time. When the moment is right, I will write down my thoughts,” he added.
Renowned for his outspoken criticism of successive Nigerian governments, Soyinka has never shied away from confronting national issues. He has, in the past, criticized the administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and the late Muhammadu Buhari.
However, more than two years into the Tinubu administration, the literary icon has remained publicly silent on its performance.
In 2019, Soyinka notably slammed Buhari’s government, accusing it of failing Nigerians in its handling of the nation’s security crisis.
