Let Nigerians Decide— Obidient Movement F!res Warning At Wike Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his declaration that he would serve as the field commander for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in Abuja and Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday through its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement expressed concerns about the potential implications of Wike’s declaration for the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

The group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant security agencies to take necessary measures to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible.

According to the movement, the 2027 elections should not be treated as the personal battle of any politician or as the exclusive property of President Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It maintained that the constitutional right to determine the country’s leadership belongs to Nigerians through the ballot box.

The group urged Wike and other political figures supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid to focus on campaigning and presenting their preferred candidates’ records to voters rather than attempting to influence the electoral process.

It also stressed that coordinating a political campaign does not give any individual control over voters or authority over the institutions responsible for conducting elections.

The Obidient Movement further called on Nigerians to remain vigilant before and during the 2027 polls by monitoring electoral activities, documenting suspected irregularities and reporting credible evidence of malpractice to the appropriate authorities.

The group warned that any attempt by Wike, his associates or other political actors to manipulate the elections should attract appropriate legal consequences. It also urged security agencies and electoral officials to uphold their responsibilities without political interference.

The movement maintained that Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory belong to their respective people and the Nigerian public, not to individual politicians or political parties.

It urged political parties and candidates to respect the electoral process and allow voters to determine the outcome of the elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the statement adds to the political debate surrounding the 2027 general elections, with the Obidient Movement emphasising the need for electoral transparency, institutional independence and respect for the will of voters.
